They are going to close down the Surf Museum (http://www.santacruzsurfingmuseum.org/)
at Light House Point (Steamer Lane) in Santa Cruz.
The only surf museum I know of at the most awesome/historic point break in the U.S.
Jessie is the man who works there, he is amazing, and he and this institution should not be closed down, they deserve better and more respect from the community.
My dad surfed from San Francisco to Mexico in the 40s and 50s, he loved this place, and the museum is the life of our surf community from Mendocino -> San Francisco -> Pacifica -> Santa Cruz -> to Santa Barbara.

Mavericks contest might be on this weekend!!!
It began last week as a blip on the weather charts, a "swell of interest" for big-wave hunters. Now it's looking more and more like just the hydrodynamic fuel needed to launch the 2009 Mavericks Surf Contest.

SANTA CRUZ SURFER NABS PREHISTORIC FISH WHILE SURFING!!!
Bernie Tershy (above) surfed Scotts Creek with his pal Joe Beek on New Year’s Eve. What a great way to wind up another year. On their way back to the car, Tershy noticed a rather large and bizarre looking fish struggling weakly in the surf. Tershy has experience as a commercial fisherman and recognized it as a long-nosed lancet fish, a deep-water dweller that occasionally washes up on northern beaches.
The long-nosed lancet fish, also called “the wolf of the sea,” is the largest of the deep-sea predatory fish, growing up to seven feet long. Its narrow body, soft muscles and large dorsal fin suggests it is an ambush hunter, relying on short bursts of high speed to capture prey. Scientists are uncertain as to the reasons they occasionally wash up on beaches, but studies have shown it is not necessarily a result of parasites, ocean storms or a pursuit of prey gone awry. Some studies suggest a correlation to La Niña events, when the equatorial Pacific Ocean surface temperatures are cooler than normal. La Nina weather patterns include cold, wet conditions in the northwest United States along with drought conditions in the southwest.

Snow in Santa Cruz!!!
Yep, that's right. Snow in Santa Cruz!!! Winter has finally hit in Santa Cruz and snow has lined the mountains surrounding this little Nor Cal town. Check the pic's below. Santa Cruz isn't quite the paradise some people make it out to be. It gets so cold here in winter that sometimes a 4/3mm wetsuit, booties, gloves and a squid lid still won't keep you warm in the water. Yikes!!!

Pleasure Point seawall ready to build!!!
County leaders have tackled what may be the last hurdle to building a giant Pleasure Point seawall, and construction is on track to begin early next year.
With little fanfare, the Board of Supervisors agreed this week to use its powers of eminent domain to take control of a small parcel along East Cliff Drive that's in the path of 1,500 feet of proposed concrete wall.
