The Central Coast surfboard demo went down at "The Pit" in Morro Bay on June 20th for International Surf Day. The surf was in the 2-3 foot range, with overcast sky's, but was a good time all around. Kids were psyched to ride a Santa Cruz surfboard for free. A big thanks goes out to Central Coast Surfboards for putting together a great beach clean up and surfboard demo for the area. Help Keep The Santa Cruz Lighthouse Point Surf Museum Open
They are going to close down the Surf Museum (http://www.santacruzsurfingmuseum.org/) at Light House Point (Steamer Lane) in Santa Cruz.
The only surf museum I know of at the most awesome/historic point break in the U.S.
Jessie is the man who works there, he is amazing, and he and this institution should not be closed down, they deserve better and more respect from the community.
My dad surfed from San Francisco to Mexico in the 40s and 50s, he loved this place, and the museum is the life of our surf community from Mendocino -> San Francisco -> Pacifica -> Santa Cruz -> to Santa Barbara.
It began last week as a blip on the weather charts, a "swell of interest" for big-wave hunters. Now it's looking more and more like just the hydrodynamic fuel needed to launch the 2009 Mavericks Surf Contest.
Either Friday or Saturday, the Bay Area's annual offshore gladiator show near Half Moon Bay could be a go. Click here to read more courtesy of the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
SANTA CRUZ SURFER NABS PREHISTORIC FISH WHILE SURFING!!!
Bernie Tershy (above) surfed Scotts Creek with his pal Joe Beek on New Year’s Eve. What a great way to wind up another year. On their way back to the car, Tershy noticed a rather large and bizarre looking fish struggling weakly in the surf. Tershy has experience as a commercial fisherman and recognized it as a long-nosed lancet fish, a deep-water dweller that occasionally washes up on northern beaches. The long-nosed lancet fish, also called “the wolf of the sea,” is the largest of the deep-sea predatory fish, growing up to seven feet long. Its narrow body, soft muscles and large dorsal fin suggests it is an ambush hunter, relying on short bursts of high speed to capture prey. Scientists are uncertain as to the reasons they occasionally wash up on beaches, but studies have shown it is not necessarily a result of parasites, ocean storms or a pursuit of prey gone awry. Some studies suggest a correlation to La Niña events, when the equatorial Pacific Ocean surface temperatures are cooler than normal. La Nina weather patterns include cold, wet conditions in the northwest United States along with drought conditions in the southwest. Click here to read full story courtesy of the Mercury News.
KIWIS TO DISSECT GREAT WHITE SHARK DURING WEBCAST STREAM!!!
A penguin, a seal, or even a human hand – what would you expect to find in the stomach of a great white shark? Scientists in New Zealand are about to discover just that when they perform a necropsy on a 10ft great white shark –believed to be the first of its kind, conducted in front of about 1,000 members of the public and streamed live online. Yep, that's right. Snow in Santa Cruz!!! Winter has finally hit in Santa Cruz and snow has lined the mountains surrounding this little Nor Cal town. Check the pic's below. Santa Cruz isn't quite the paradise some people make it out to be. It gets so cold here in winter that sometimes a 4/3mm wetsuit, booties, gloves and a squid lid still won't keep you warm in the water. Yikes!!!

The California Coastal Commission last week signed off on the county's plan to build one of the largest, and perhaps most decorative, seawalls on the Monterey Bay. Ozzie Wright has finally got some down time to chill in his home town of Narrabeen. He was on a travel rampage, traveling around the world with his band Goons Of Doom and doing a few surf trips as well to Fiji & Mexico. Now back home he's been seen ramping out on his new Santa Cruz 5'8" pro model and the 5'5" G-deck Skywalker. He's loving the boards and has been flying high on them. He's also filming for the sequel of Doped Youth. Be sure to pick up a copy of Doped Youth II when it's released later this year. Oh yeah, the Ozzie 5'8" will be available next month.
Matt & Ford Archbold are living on the North Shore of Oahu. Archy's been killing it at Off The Wall. He's been getting some ridiculous shacks and some heavy layback snaps. Christian Fletcher recently got back from the North Shore where he surfed some decent Pipe and skated the Cholo Bowl. Christian is the cross over king! Ripping in and out of the water. He and a friend have been making some crazy decals, which you'll see on his surfboards. Some include a set of Independent trucks with OJIII wheels stuck to the bottom of his surfboard. I'm sure you'll be tripping out when you see him launch some fat airs out at the Wedge and notice he's got a set of wheels and trucks on the bottom of his board. Also, Christians new Tomahawk pro graphics are out now on his current 6'2" square tail, and 5'11" square tail pro models.
Shawn "Barney" Barron has been on some tow missions up in Oregon priming up for some heavy surf. He's also been doing some crazy art work. Matt Ratt also just got sponsored by Electric Sunglasses.

Kyle "Boothy" Buthman recently got back from a trip to Hawaii. Kyle was rushing some solid swells at Sunset Beach. This kid has got some balls the size of coconuts. Some say his skateboarding technique is something to watch as is his areal technique. Keep an eye out for him.
Dylan Southworth has been doing some Latin American junior comps down in South America. If you don't know Dylan, he's from Sayulita, Mexico and is the top Mexican grom surfer in the Nation. He won the 18 and under division of the Mexican Championships at the young age of 14 a couple years back. Watch out world, Dylan is on a rampage and wants to win every comp he can get in.

Kainalu Froiseth just moved to Santa Cruz from Makaha Beach, Hawaii to attend college with his girlfriend. She gave him the heads up that she wanted to move to the mainland for school and Nalu said, "if we're moving to da mainland, we're moving to Santa Cruz, cuz da waves are juicy brah"!! Nalu now is going to Cabrillo College and surfing everyday. Yeah Nalu!!!
Sahara Ray has been ripping up every contest in Santa Cruz from NSSA's to high school contests. She's won every high school comp except for the last one that she missed. Sahara is the daughter of Australian big wave charger Tony Ray. Sahara is definitely a heart breaker, so boy's take caution.
carries a simple philosophy. Make the best damn boards possible to enlighten your surfing experience. For the last forty years, we've made nearly every type of board imaginable. From balsa logs to polyester guns, Retro fishes to modern aerial assault weapons, we've been there and done "that". "That's" not enough though. As surfboard design has changed, so has surfing. People are surfing bigger waves, hitting the lip harder and higher and surfing faster than ever. Some are ramping out on ridiculous waves, boosting unimaginable airs. As surfing evolves, so must our equipment. Modern surfing is more demanding. We make boards that keep up with it. Why pay for a board that's going to fall apart under your feet?
